How the calculator works it out
Stableford turns each hole into a small points contest against par, after your handicap. The worst you can score on a hole is zero, so one blow-up doesn't wreck your card. Here's the scoring this tool applies on every hole:
- Net double bogey or worse — 0 points (time to pick up)
- Net bogey — 1 point
- Net par — 2 points
- Net birdie — 3 points
- Net eagle — 4 points
- Net albatross — 5 points
You're expected to make a net par — 2 points — on every hole, and 2 × 18 = 36. Beat 36 and you've bettered your handicap. The calculator tells you exactly how far above or below you finished.
Handicap strokes, handled for you
Your course handicap is shared across the holes by stroke index — hardest hole first. A handicap of 18 gets a stroke everywhere; a handicap of 9 gets a stroke on stroke-index 1 to 9; a handicap over 18 picks up a second stroke on the hardest holes. The calculator does all of that from the single course-handicap figure, so the points are right without you counting strokes on your fingers.
